SURAT: The recent appointments of 12 members of ruling
BJP in the Nagar Prathmik Shikshan Samiti has again brought to fore the issue of representation to the Saurashtrian lobby in the city. A source from within the BJP said resentment is brewing and it may reach a flashpoint if not tackled right now. The city BJP president refused to comment though.
Councillors and party workers representing the Varachha area were dismayed at being ignored.
To pacify them, the party gave a couple of workers from the area good posts, but it stopped at that. Now, these newly appointed office-bearers are also disgusted with the functioning of the party unit in city.
"Nothing is communicated or told to us. The party president talks of one thing to us and does exactly the opposite when time for action comes. Our person is asked to fill up the membership form of the samiti, but at the last moment his name is cancelled for unexplained reason," an office-bearer from Varachha said.
Another senior worker from the party said, "Of the 12 party members appointed on local level, 11 are new, but four are totally unknowns. Seniors and workers who have toiled relentlessly are kept aside. Those appointed have no history of BJP membership for long. How can you distribute posts like that?"
